Position summary
The Flight Operations Coordinator (FOC) is a senior flight instructor who provides leadership and oversight of Andrews University’s day-to-day flight operations.
Function as the FAA Chief Flight Instructor with oversight of the 141 flight program. This role ensures safe, efficient, and compliant use of all AU aircraft, supervises and supports the flight instructor team, and collaborates closely with the Chief Flight Instructor, maintenance staff, and department leadership to uphold the highest standards of safety, training quality, and operational excellence.
Qualifications summary
- FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) certification; CFII and MEI preferred.
- Experience with Flight Schedule Pro software.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to supervise a team of flight instructors.
- Strong decision-making skills in dynamic operational environments.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
Operational Leadership & Oversight
- Oversee daily flight operations, ensuring aircraft usage is properly maintained and student flights are maximized.
- Supervise and mentor flight instructors, promoting instructional excellence and adherence to safety protocols.
- Coordinate with the Chief Flight Instructor on aircraft discrepancies, inspection schedules, and operational priorities.
- Liaise with maintenance staff to ensure timely resolution of aircraft issues.
- Implement and enforce weather-related operational decisions.
Safety & Compliance
- Actively monitor flight tracking systems and address delays, diversions, or emergencies.
- Ensure aircraft security when line service is unavailable.
- Lead safety discussions in weekly meetings with the Chief Flight Instructor, Lead Mechanic, A&P Curriculum Manager, and Department Chair.
- Approve non-flight student or passenger ride-alongs per department policy.
Instruction & Administrative Support
- Teach one assigned course per semester.
- Maintain accurate student billing records for all flight classes.
- Supervise the dispatch coordinator and ensure line staff are trained and working efficiently.
Supervisory responsibilities
Supervise the Dispatch Coordinator and coordinate hourly staff with the Chief Flight Instructor.

Technical competencies
Applicants must hold a FAA Flight Instructor certification; Commercial Multi-engine/Single Engine licenses preferred.
Know how to use Flight Schedule Pro software.

Physical demands

On-site role at Andrews University Airpark, involving both office and airfield work in variable weather conditions.
