Position summary
We are looking for a dependable, caring, and creative individual to join our morning team and support the flow of the day. This position begins shortly after the center opens and runs Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Responsibilities include welcoming children and families during morning drop-off, assisting teachers with classroom transitions and activities, preparing materials, and helping maintain a warm, safe, and organized environment throughout the morning. This individual may also be called to serve as the staff in charge when the Director is not on site.

Qualifications summary

Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities

Serve as Staff in Charge during morning hours when the Director is not on site by answering questions, greeting families, supporting staff, and addressing situations professionally.

Welcome children and families during drop-off and assist with morning transitions and routines.

Supervise a classroom independently and assume Lead Teacher responsibilities when needed.

Support children’s daily routines, ensuring safety, consistency, and a positive start to the day.

Provide direct care, including breakfast assistance, helping with bathroom needs, and light cleaning or setup tasks.

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment in classrooms, common areas, and playgrounds.

Use positive guidance, encouragement, and clear expectations to support social-emotional development.

Follow all health, safety, and licensing regulations and adhere to center policies.

Communicate clearly and professionally with staff, families, and children.

Be dependable, flexible, and punctual, following assigned schedules and responsibilities.

Perform other tasks as needed to support the smooth operation of the center.
Supervisory responsibilities
Serve as
Staff in Charge during morning hours when the Director is not on site, including greeting families, communicating with parents, supporting staff, and addressing any concerns or licensing visits in a professional manner.
May independently supervise a classroom in the absence of the Lead Teacher.
Assume Lead Teacher responsibilities when directed, including managing routines, ensuring safety, and maintaining a positive, engaging learning environment.
Provide guidance and support to assistant staff and student workers as assigned by the Director or Lead Teacher.
Actively supervise children indoors and outdoors at all times to ensure their safety and well-being.
Uphold and model The Crayon Box’s policies, procedures, and professional standards in all supervisory duties.
Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent.

Able to serve as Staff in Charge when the Director is not on site, including answering questions, supporting staff, communicating with parents, and meeting with licensing representatives if needed.

Previous experience in early childhood care or education preferred but not required.

CPR and First Aid certification preferred (training available if not current).

Committed to ongoing professional development and training in early childhood best practices.

Technical competencies

Classroom Technology Tools:
Able to confidently use technology commonly found in early childhood classrooms, such as CD players, classroom iPads, digital cameras, and TVs for music, movement, and learning activities.

Comfortable using phones, tablets, or cameras to capture and document children's activities for learning portfolios, bulletin boards, and parent communication while respecting privacy guidelines.

Educational Media Integration:
Experience using age-appropriate educational technology (e.g., digital storybooks, songs, Bible stories, movement videos like Yippee, or Christian children's worship videos) to enhance group learning and engagement.

Digital Record-Keeping:
Ability to assist with maintaining accurate electronic attendance, incident reports, nap charts, and allergy lists using center-approved platforms or software.

Basic Technology Troubleshooting:
Able to perform simple troubleshooting on common classroom technology (e.g., reconnecting Wi-Fi, recharging tablets, restarting devices) to ensure learning activities continue smoothly.

Audio/Visual Equipment:
Ability to set up and manage projectors, sound systems, or TVs for special events, story time, or classroom celebrations.

Organization of Digital Resources:
Helps organize digital teaching resources such as songs, videos, printable activities, and lesson materials on shared drives or devices for easy classroom use.

Work environment
The Child Care Assistant Teacher position is performed primarily in an
early childhood classroom and outdoor play environments. The work requires frequent physical activity and active engagement with young children throughout the day.
The work environment may include
exposure to cleaning products, bodily fluids, and common childhood illnesses. Staff are responsible for maintaining clean, organized, and safe classroom and playground areas, which may include light housekeeping duties such as
washing dishes, sanitizing toys, and cleaning common use areas.
All duties are performed in accordance with the
health, safety, and supervision guidelines established by The Crayon Box and state licensing regulations.
This position is performed in an early childhood classroom setting and may involve:

Exposure to varying temperatures during indoor and outdoor transitions or playground supervision.

Occasional exposure to common childhood illnesses and minor injuries typical in a childcare environment.
Staff are expected to maintain physical stamina, flexibility, and situational awareness to provide a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment for all children in their care.
