Position summary
The MMC student library assistant performs general customer service and office duties, as well as shelving materials. Additional special duties and projects are assigned to each team member based on skills, interest, and library needs.

Duties and responsibilities
The MMCstudent library assistant performs general customer service and office duties, as well as shelving materials. Additional special duties may include cataloging and data entry, acting as the music materials ordering manager, and completing reserach tasks in the university archives
Learning specialized library software, maintaining systamatic workflows, and updating multipage spreadsheets required. Training provided.
This job needs a commitment of at least 10-15 hours week to be done well. Up to 20 hours during the semester term and up to 40 hours for additional summer projects may be availalbe.
The task and training load is detailed enough that a commitment of two years is saught from the employee if possible.
Supervisory responsibilities
Some supervision and coordination with other student assistants in the music library may be required.
Qualifications
The succesful applicant will possess:
- Working knowlege of Western classical music notation
- A basic understanding of Western classical music history
- Fluency in English at the conversational level or above

Daily office duties include interacting with customers/patrons in a helpful and friendly manner in-person, on the phone, and via email.
Physical demands
Sitting for up to 20 minutes at a time is common in this job.
Should be able to lift up to 20lbs, bend, strech, and kneel in order to shelve books.
Work environment
Typical office environment. Low to moderate levels of noise and activity. Some dust or other allergens present.
