Position summary
A student chaplain in the Center of Faith Engagement serves as the first point of contact for students responding to chapel, vespers, and worship fellowship programming. This role processes submitted interest forms and initiates timely, welcoming communication through text and email. By offering encouragement, answering questions, and discerning spiritual needs, the chaplain helps students identify and take their next step—whether meeting one-on-one, joining a group, or connecting with a mentor. Through responsive follow-up and pastoral care, the chaplain fosters trust, clarity, and meaningful engagement in faith exploration.

Demonstrates strong communication skills, pastoral sensitivity, and organizational ability. Comfortable initiating contact through text and email while maintaining professionalism and warmth. Able to discern spiritual needs, maintain confidentiality, and guide students toward appropriate next steps. Committed to faith formation, collaborative ministry, and fostering welcoming environments for spiritual exploration.
Duties and responsibilities
- Process and track student interest forms generated through chapel, vespers, and worship fellowships.
- Initiate timely first contact with students through text and email in a warm, professional manner.
- Schedule and coordinate next steps, including one-on-one meetings, small groups, or mentor connections.
- Maintain accurate records of student engagement and follow-up communication.
- Collaborate with campus ministry staff to ensure smooth transitions into faith engagement opportunities

Qualifications

Must be a student in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 2.5
- NOTE: This individual must be available Aug. 10 - 15, 2025 for the required CFE Student Chaplain Retreat
Technical competencies
- Proficient in navigating and utilizing CFE software platforms for tracking, communication, and data management.
- Able to generate, interpret, and present clear reports on student engagement and follow-up activity.
- Demonstrates strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Communicates professionally and promptly through digital platforms.
- Maintains confidentiality and exercises sound judgment in pastoral interactions.
Interpersonal interactions
- Seek help, guidance, education, and training relevant to their position.
- Practice a compassionate presence and hospitality to students of all races, religions, and backgrounds
- Listen attentively to and empathize with others
- Display the capacity for meaningful dialogue
- Exercise good conflict resolution strategies
- Maintain a social media presence that is consistent with the values and ideals of the CFE and a student chaplain.

- Frequent moving of large items such as staging or musical instruments
Work environment
Various types of work environments including but not limited to an office setting, outdoor events, or large venues like a hall or church.
