The Andrews University Women's Cardinal soccer team is
headed to Burlington, Vermont to play in the United States Collegiate Athletic
Association's national tournament. The team departed by bus on Wednesday, Oct.
29. Their first game is Thursday, Oct. 30 at noon. Their next game is scheduled
for Friday morning, Oct. 31.
This tournament is by invitation only to the top 8 teams in the nation. The
women's Cardinal soccer team is currently ranked 4th in the nation.
If the team wins both games on Thursday and Friday, they will move onto to play
in the USCAA National Championship on Saturday night. The USCAA tournament
directors are fully aware of the Seventh-day Adventist Sabbath-keeping belief and
have bent over backwards to accommodate with a schedule that does not conflict
or infringe upon the Sabbath. If the Women’s Cardinal team advances to the
finals, the championship game will be played after sunset Saturday night.
The team is coached by Mickey Kutzner, research professor of physics, and
assisted by Keith Wakefield, a seminary student.
