The Andrews University Wind Symphony will be performing their concert “Honoring Our Past” at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Howard Performing Arts Center. The symphony, directed by Denisse Santos, will honor the 150-year anniversary of Andrews University and will feature pieces composed by Andrews faculty and alumni.

The program will open with Philip Sparke’s “The Pioneers,” a piece written in memory of the exploration of Lewis and Clark, before continuing with “Crown of Glory” composed by Max Keller, assistant professor of music. In this composition, Keller combines the Adventist hymns “The Morning Trumpet” and “Oh When Shall We See Jesus” into a symphonic piece that will be conducted by graduate student Earlon Cornwall. The first half of the concert will close with an original composition by Kenneth Logan, organ instructor and minister of music at Pioneer Memorial Church. Logan’s “We, From Battle Creek” is a four-movement piece that recognizes different places in Adventist history based in Battle Creek.

After a short intermission, the program will continue with Campbell’s “Michigan Sesquicentennial March.” Other pieces in the second half of the evening include Eric Whitacre’s “October” and Joseph Willcox Jenkins’ “American Overture for Band.” Singers from the Battle Creek Tabernacle and Pioneer Memorial Church will join the wind symphony for the final piece, Travis Cross’ arrangement of “Be Thou My Vision.”

Tickets can be purchased at howard.andrews.edu. Prices are $7 for general admission and $5 for students and seniors (limit two tickets per student ID). For more information, contact the Howard Box Office at 269-471-3560.
