2015 Grad Awarded Ronald O. Kapp Award

On March 4, 2016, WayAnne Watson, a 2015 graduate of Andrews University, received the Kapp Award for the most outstanding undergraduate paper presented at the 2015 Michigan Academy of Science, Arts and Letters Conference. Watson, a music major, presented a paper entitled “Mashup Strategies in Las cuatro estaciones portenas: A model for connecting compositonal techniques to cultural interpretations” in the Academy’s Interdisciplinary Studies section. She received a $100 honorarium and recognition at the 2016 Michigan Academy conference.

The Kapp Award was established in recognition of the contributions to the Academy of Ronald O. Kapp, research botanist, professor of biology, and provost at Alma College until his death in 1990. Kapp, strongly committed to involving undergraduate students in research, served as president of the Academy for two terms.

The Michigan Academy is a nonprofit organization founded in 1894 to “promote research and diffuse knowledge.” The Michigan Academy’s annual conference draws presenters from several states and Canada, as well as, scholars from across the state of Michigan. This multi-disciplinary conference includes presentations in over 30 disciplines in the sciences, humanities, and social sciences.
