National Christian Choir Concert
Choral ensemble from D.C. to perform in the Howard Center
On Saturday, April 29, the National Christian Choir (NCC) will perform in the Howard Performing Arts Center on the campus of Andrews University. The concert begins at 7 p.m. and admission is free. Information can be found on their website (nationalchristianchoir.org) or by calling their office at 301-670-6331.
The NCC feels called to praise God and draw others into deeper relationships with him through their music, of which they provide 12-14 concerts annually. They are known internationally for their radio program, Psalm 95. This one-hour program is broadcast weekly and hosted by Kathy C. Bowman, director of music and ministries and current director of the NCC. Recent broadcasts can be heard on their website, where they also post their concert schedules, a list of radio stations that carry Psalm 95, news, samples of their music and more.
The choir is composed of 175 people, hailing from more than 100 churches from five states in the greater Washington D.C. and Baltimore area. The members are all volunteers who auditioned for the choir, and they meet at the First Baptist Church of Rockville on Monday nights during the school year to rehearse.
All singers agree to a Statement of Faith, which reads: “I have received Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, as my personal Savior and Lord, and believe that the Bible is God’s inspired Word to us. My desire is to live my life for His glory, to obey God’s moral and spiritual laws and to use my talents to honor Him within The National Christian Choir.”
Harry Causey founded the NCC in 1984. He led the Choir for 27 years before Bowman replaced him as director. The NCC continues to perform, as does the NCC Children’s Choir that began in 2011, and their vocal ensemble called 2nd Edition.
