Reggie & Ladye Love Smith, longtime participants in the Gaither Homecoming series, will be performing at the Howard Performing Arts Center (HPAC) this Sunday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. Bringing authenticity to a variety of styles, from country to contemporary worship, the couple will encourage an atmosphere of hope.
The duo has “been together pretty much every moment of [their] professional lives.” Reggie and Ladye Love first met in the choir at the University of Mississippi, where they performed together as soloists in an international competition. They got their first job singing background vocals for decorated gospel singer Larnelle Harris, which took them as far as the Kremlin in newly post-Soviet Russia. While living in Florida, the two recorded sessions for Disney projects. From there, they went on to become part of the Gaither Homecoming series, tours and recordings featuring music from a large group of Southern Gospel artists. Beginning in 1997, the pair initially sang background vocals in the series before becoming a featured duo.
Currently, Reggie also performs with the Gaither Vocal Band, the renowned Southern gospel outfit. He joined in 2017, filling the role of tenor previously held by David Phelps. Since he’s been a member, the group has added three Dove Awards (the Christian equivalent to the Grammys) to their trophy case: two for Southern Gospel Artist of the Year in 2018 and 2019, and one for Recorded Song of the Year in 2022 with “My Feet Are on the Rock.” While not part of the group, Ladye Love tours with the band as a soloist.
Reggie and Ladye Love have performed in over 30 countries, including stops at the Super Bowl, Carnegie Hall, and the Grand Ole Opry as part of the Opry Singers. Together, they have released 10 albums, continued sharing their music with the Gaither Gospel Series, and released a cookbook (“Ladye Love’s Cookin’ It Up With Reggie”), all while maintaining their relationship and raising a son.
Per their website, the Smiths’ main goal is to share the love of Jesus. To be blessed by their “smooth, soulful vocals and impeccable musicianship” this weekend, come to the HPAC at 7 p.m. this Sunday. Tickets are on sale for $31.50 ($21.50 for students and $11.50 for children) and can be purchased here.
