Better Humans Together

Established in 1966, the mission of the J.N. Andrews Honors Program is to foster the scholarly, spiritual and social potential of talented students. Since its beginning, the J. N. Andrews Honors Program has sought to provide challenging classroom experiences focused on critical thinking, discussion, and personal worldview development. Following in the footsteps of our namesake, the early Adventist scholar and missionary J. N. Andrews, the Honors Program strives to wed rigorous academic training with deep and abiding faith.

The Scholars' Alternate General Education Studies (SAGES) offers an alternative general education curriculum to complement a student’s major. SAGES courses are intentionally designed, encouraging students to make connections between courses and deliberately build on their prior learning.  Other features of the SAGES curriculum include:

  • Smaller class sizes
  • Primary text-centered study
  • Interdisciplinary learning
  • Discussion-oriented teaching techniques
  • Highly qualified teaching and research faculty
  • Conscious integration of faith with learning
The J.N. Honors Program represents the pinnacle of undergraduate research achievements at Andrews University. While working in tandem with Andrews faculty, each Honors student contributes to their academic field by conducting research, completing an Honors Thesis, and presenting those findings. As the capstone achivement of the program, the Senior Honors Thesis serves to facilitate a crucial transition to the responsibilities of the workforce, graduate school, and professional study.

  • Additional funding for research needs
  • Support for off-campus presentations & travel
  • Access to an expanded network of professionals and employers

Become a part of a close-knit community of academically motivated students dedicated to intellectual and spiritural development inside and outside of the classrom. Our successful alumni family is comprised of individuals who go on to medical school, law school, veterinary school, graduate school, and professional employment at engineering firms, law firms, hospitals, museums, schools, universities, and more. We aim to be better humans together through a wide range of activities at Andrews and beyond.
